Oliver Bäte is CEO and Chairman of the Board of Management of Allianz SE, the world’s #1 leading insurance brand and a financial services provider with annual revenues of nearly 150 billion euros. He leads about 155,000 employees in more than 70 countries who offer 126 million customers a range of products, services and solutions in insurance and asset management.
Oliver is a passionate and lifelong advocate for environmental protection and co-founded the UN-convened Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance to help achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. His focus on meritorious inclusion in the workplace resulted in Allianz’s designation as an Iconic Leader of the Valuable 500, a group devoted to making business more inclusive of people with disabilities. In addition, he drove Allianz’s #1 ranking on BeyondGenderAgenda’s Diversity Index, one of the most rigorous indices for measuring diversity outcomes in Germany.
He is dedicated to advancing financial services and economic expertise and serves as Vice Chairman of the Geneva Association, as a member of the Institute of International Finance, the Shanghai International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council and as the Monetary Authority of Singapore International Advisory Panel.
Oliver started his career with McKinsey & Company in New York and later moved to their offices in Germany. In 1998, he took over the lead of McKinsey’s insurance practice of Germany and Austria. In 2003, he was named Director of the firm’s European insurance and asset management practice, and, in 2008, joined the Board of Management of Allianz SE as Global Chief Operating Officer. He later served as Allianz SE’s Chief Financial Officer, and subsequently as head of insurance for Western & Southern Europe, and then for Global P&C markets. In 2015, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management.
Oliver studied business administration at the University of Cologne and holds an MBA from New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
