About the Speaker

Sarah Spiekermann-Hoff is a university professor at WU Vienna and head of the Institute for Information Systems and Society. She is the founder of the Privacy and Sustainable Computing Lab and a consultant for digital ethics. Her professional career began at the Silicon Valley company Openwave Systems, from where she moved to the strategy consultancy A.T. Kearney. She then headed the Internet Economics Research Centre at Humboldt-University Berlin. Due to her many years of research, the business informatics specialist has become a renowned critic of the IT industry and its view of humankind. She calls for technology that serves people and, together with the engineering association IEEE, developed the first standardisation process in history to deal with ethical technology design.
