American actor, director and producer George Clooney celebrated his first successes in the mid-1990s as paediatrician Doug Ross in the US medical drama series Emergency Room. In 2006 he received an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for the film Syriana and in 2013 as producer of Argo.
In addition to these two Academy Awards, for his accomplishments as an actor and film-maker he was also distinguished with five Golden Globes, four SAG Awards, a BAFTA award, two Critics’ Choice Awards, an Emmy, four National Board of Review Awards and the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award. George Clooney is politically engaged and campaigns for climate protection and human rights. His numerous distinctions for his humanitarian efforts include the Peace Summit Award 2007, which was awarded at the 8th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, and the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award 2010. In August 2016 George Clooney and his wife Amal established the Clooney Foundation for Justice.
